"Make This PC Discoverable" switch missing - Microsoft Community

hi,

i setting wlan 3 laptops, same brand , model compaq cq-21, running windows 10 version 1607 build 14393.1358. further updating down road, have been stumbling on windows update going on hours or whole nights , doing pretty nothing. that's issue. right now, problem is: 1 of them, strangely enough, the "make pc discoverable" switch has gone missing.

i sure did have option before, , same wifi ssd, upon tweaking options, resetting network configs , trying 1 laptop share files "server" other "client" machines, came across need set again, without success. switch not there anymore, autoconnect , metered connection switches listed/available. more annoyed fact web search of issue got me feasible - i.e. left restoring or freshly installing system.

my actual goal convert network type public private, tried else: going homegroup config, know that screen has link "change network location". that's when got angry, had changed , link not available anymore. said not set homegroup type of network not right (public).

i found out way edit corresponding registry key (on web) , have private status "forced". also, went advanced sharing options, discovery , auto set of network devices on. doing enabled me set homegroup, still had issues not being able share folders on network. heck!

i decided go through windows troubleshooter, asked if i'd reset network configs , reboot (still don't understand why windows 10 says it's rebooting after 5 minutes, oh well, guess i'll wait). been there, done that, no good. tried windows settings > network & internet > status > network reset (link below page). changed nothing.

finally, deleted registry profile wifi ssd (all of them, actually), configured fresh, went troubleshooting homegroup, skipped network fix request , got asked if wanted change public private. after that, seems going well, still don't have the "make pc discoverable" switch belongs , pretty sure going bother me again in future.

hi Átila,

broken components on system file related user account can 1 of factors why issue occurs. isolate concern, recommend create new user profile , check if issue persists. this, follow steps provided on link.

hello, so bought new laptop came windows 10 pre-installed. when unpacking, store clerk created dummy local account used when starting first time - make process faster syncing microsoft account, can sync later - said. anyway, done , welcomed desktop. synced microsoft account , went in. synced right away - down wallpapers , themes - save 1 thing; the account name. it still using dummy local account name, despite picture has changed account picture. clicked 'sign in microsoft account instead', , process failed in end. said "[my e-mail account] here already. user in device uses microsoft account, can't add here" i tried removing e-mail & app account under 'e-mail & app account' tab , when tried again, still didn't work. please, want name here. oh, , don't know topic should fall - there's no 'sync' specifically, pick 1 think closest. sorry in advance. ...
