RNDIS USB Modem Dongle is not working after installing Windows 10 Fall - Microsoft Community


rndis usb modem no longer connect internet after installing windows 10 fall creators update (version 1709). suggestions?


hi,

microsoft aware of reports of problems rndis usb network adapters after installing windows 10 fall creators update. working on problem , hope have solution released in future windows update.  we update thread when fix released.  until then, these steps should recover modem functionality:

notes:

  • kb4051963 (os build 16299.98) must installed before performing these steps.
    • to confirm os build, go start > settings > system > about.
    • to install update, go start > settings > update & security > windows update, click check updates, install available updates.
  • ensure rndis device plugged in on pc's usb when performing these steps.
  • if rndis device moved usb port, these steps need repeated.

step 1: open device manager.  to this, press , hold (or right-click) start menu icon , select device manger.

step 2:  expand network adapters , find entry remote ndis based internet sharing device.

step 3: right click remote ndis based internet sharing device , select update driver.

step 4: select browse computer driver software.

step 5: select let me pick list of available drivers computer.

step 6: click have disk.

step 7: in “copy manufacturer’s files from:” field, enter c:\windows\inf and click ok.

step 8: uncheck box “show compatible hardware”.

step 9: in left pane, select microsoft manufacturer, , in right pane, select usb rndis adapter model.  click next.

step 10: should receive “update driver warning”.  select yes continue installing driver. 

step 11: click close.
