No option to join homegroup - Microsoft Community

we used have 2 computers in house networked. network vanished 1 day, many months ago -- don't remember whether after final windows 10 upgrade or after subsequent windows update. have tried every solution can find on forum, , cannot make homegroup work.

both computers use windows 10 , automatic updates.  have wifi connection internet through modem both computers use. assuming connection how 2 computers supposed able share. before quit working, computers able share files , printer on network, not homegroup.

on computer #1 have been able set homegroup.  computer #2 cannot detect homegroup.  keeps showing message, "there no homegroup on network" , option create one, no option join. tried doing opposite direction: after making computer 1 leave homegroup, attempted set homegroup on computer 2. got message, "windows cannot create homegroup on computer."

here have checked , solutions have tried, no avail:

- both computers have same date , time.

- both have network discovery enabled.

- both have tcp/ipv6 checked.

-  when create homegroup, other computer shut down.

- deleted idstore files peernetworking on both computers. solution said make homegroup disappear after computer rebooted, did not. nor did change problem.

- checked various services recommended in several solutions , turned on pnrp machine name publication service not running. however, don't have option make automatic on computer #2.

- possible, stopped , restarted various services recommended in several solutions, such pnrp machine name publication services, dsn client, peer networking identity manager, etc. however, latter service not stopped on computer 2; got message other services dependent on it. nor make automatic on computer 2.

- checked homegroup provider, running , automatic. however, computer 2 not have homegroup listener. don't know if problem , if is, how acquire it. computer 1 have homegroup listener.

- renamed computer 1.

- went c:\program data\microsoft\crypto\rsa , renamed machinekeys machinekeys-old created new machinekeys. instructions didn't computer on, did on both.  nor did next, restarted computers, , tried recreating homegroup.

there may have been couple more trials have forgotten. none of has helped. computer 2 never has option join homegroup. thinks there isn't one.  have not yet tried research why windows cannot create homegroup on computer 2.

for months have been unplugging , replugging printer depending on needs use it, stringing cord across desks. have share files emailing them or putting them on flash drives. getting old. if has solution, grateful.
