External HDD Not Initialized, Unknown with I/O Error - Microsoft Community

hi,

i’m having problem on buffalo external hard drive recently, can’t open or format drive , not appearing on pc somehow showing on disk management disk 1 unknown 2048.00 gb not initialize, unallocated. , whenever try initializing disk, i’m getting i/o device error. tried troubleshooting on cmd i’m still getting error (i/o device error, cannot etc.)  i’m not interested on data in want reuse hard drive once again. , might cause of problem?

if have not yet try first:

shutdown pc after shut down disconnect external drive, if drive powered externally disconnect power supply, wait 20 seconds reconnect power supply drive. startup pc (with external drive still disconnected), login, wait 5 15 minutes, plug external drive usb, (or e-sata, firewire, whatever) port. should cause windows re-recognize device , initiate anew.

also, check support website of drives manufacturer available device firmware updates windows 10 os, in cases applicable external drive.

hello, so bought new laptop came windows 10 pre-installed. when unpacking, store clerk created dummy local account used when starting first time - make process faster syncing microsoft account, can sync later - said. anyway, done , welcomed desktop. synced microsoft account , went in. synced right away - down wallpapers , themes - save 1 thing; the account name. it still using dummy local account name, despite picture has changed account picture. clicked 'sign in microsoft account instead', , process failed in end. said "[my e-mail account] here already. user in device uses microsoft account, can't add here" i tried removing e-mail & app account under 'e-mail & app account' tab , when tried again, still didn't work. please, want name here. oh, , don't know topic should fall - there's no 'sync' specifically, pick 1 think closest. sorry in advance.
