Windows 10 Keeps generating errors, scan drive alerts & Failing - Microsoft Community

hiya

i've been struggling pc past few weeks, , thought i'd give go see if can me.

to give context, booted pc 1 day , greeted black screen after windows startup (the spinning dot animation). mouse visible.

this occurred after had tried playing destiny 2. tried because after spawning game screen went black, sound stuttered, , it. unable except hard reboot. pc worked again after following morning met black screen , mouse being visible.

i tried several methods of troubleshooting:

winkey+p see if display drivers had messed - did nothing

reboot in safemode+networking - same issue, black screen

/sfc scannow in admin cmd @ start, along offwindir commands - no effect, couldn't complete

chkdsk - no effect

eventually, reformatted ssd (an ocz vector 250gb ssd), , reinstalled win10.

i ran windows update, updated drivers , reinstalled programs (office365, discord, steam, battlenet, dropbox, 1 drive, chrome, avira antivirus, vlc, ocz ssd utility, etc...)

and lasted 2 days , since same thing has occurred repeatedly.

after day or 2 when switch pc on again request scan drive errors. greeted error on signing in. ctxfihlp error, have solved disabling onboard soundcard in bios. others mfc42.dll error, have managed solve well.

but regardless of these "minor" errors, whenever allow scan, goes through motions , asks me restart , repair. once pc restarts , runs repair, 1 of 2 outcomes tend occur:

1: pc gets stuck in restart , repair loop - run diagnostic chkdsk, restart, repair, restart, run chkdsk, restart, repair, run chk...etc... i've let run on hour @ 1 point. doubt healthy (nor have found satisfactory literature occurrence)

2: repair fails , win10 requests manual restart. upon signing in i'm greeted error message "extended attributes inconsistent windows 10" - when occurs i'm able open programs cannot run cmd prompt, changing administrator privileges has not solved either. nor has changing power setting, graphics settings, running in safe-mode, etc...

in end i'm forced reformat yet again , start scratch. believe have done 15 times in last 3 weeks.

i have run diagnostics on:

the ssd - passed

the hdd archive drive - good

cpu - good

gfx card (nvidia gtx 670) - good

3x4gb ddr3 ram - good

motherboard (gigabyte g1 sniper f1)  - apparently if isn't smoking it's still in perfect working order.

psu - thing can't test without relevant equipment.

my recent run has been 5 days without error occurring, though today has requested scan drive errors, makes me worry again. change in last 5 days needed allow game install .net framework 3.5. if has caused errors, new 1 list.

at point i'm not sure if it's hardware issue or software conflict , diagnostics telling me fine, except win10 keeps wanting scan errors causes entire system fail. restore point fails everytime, isn't possible.

hopefully, can me.

hi albert,

corrupted system files 1 of possible reasons why issue happening. need additional information isolate concern. kindly answer following questions below:

  • what application using when doing drive scan?
  • what error messages getting whenever scanning drive?
  • what happens computer after performing scan drive? getting blue screen error?
