External (USB) Hard Drive freezes computer - Microsoft Community

good day everyone,

   have hard drive in process of failing. hard drive sata drive , installed in laptop. drive hitachi hdd. because laptop no longer boot removed drive , put on usb sata adapter access on desktop pc. desktop pc above average machine. issues not due desktop being old or underpowered.

   here symptoms experience once connect drive usb adaptor.

  1. if try open disk management snap-in not open. try connect virtual disk service not.
    1. if remove usb connected disk snap-in open immediately.
  2. if try open hdd diagnostic software same thing happens. software not run until drive removed system.
  3. if open computer, pc, or whatever microsoft calls now, open there green status bar moves across address bar never seems finish.
  4. when connect drive system pc shows drive , drive letter files not accessible.
  5. i go on more example sure idea.

   not happen on windows 10 pc, happens on windows 8.1 pc.

   guess question this, why happen? why failing hdd connected pc using usb adapter bring pc crawl. goal try , recover files on hdd before fails. if drive renders pc unusable cannot recover files on drive.

   @ time have hdd on spare pc running chkdsk /f /r. has been running on day. ideas appreciated. if "normal" can see why pc techs not want try , recover files or charge huge prices in order so.

it's normal failing hard drive and that'll cause to experience problem regardless of specs of pc. if doesn't work on pc i'm afraid you'll have send hdd local repair shop can manually recover of files.

if files got deleted after managing make work on device, download , use program recover everything.

hello, so bought new laptop came windows 10 pre-installed. when unpacking, store clerk created dummy local account used when starting first time - make process faster syncing microsoft account, can sync later - said. anyway, done , welcomed desktop. synced microsoft account , went in. synced right away - down wallpapers , themes - save 1 thing; the account name. it still using dummy local account name, despite picture has changed account picture. clicked 'sign in microsoft account instead', , process failed in end. said "[my e-mail account] here already. user in device uses microsoft account, can't add here" i tried removing e-mail & app account under 'e-mail & app account' tab , when tried again, still didn't work. please, want name here. oh, , don't know topic should fall - there's no 'sync' specifically, pick 1 think closest. sorry in advance.
