PRINTER STOPPED WORKING AFTER WINDOWS 10 UPDATE - Microsoft Community


my dell a10 printer 966 stopped working when windows 10 update installed on 15th july 2017. have removed device , reinstalled per previous advice when has happened before time printer won't print test page show set complete , i'm unable print documents. please can advise now.

here worked lexmark... may or may not dell, has worked some... substitute dell lexmark when appropriate..

the biggest difference have tried "remove" printer , turn off "print spooler" before uninstalling , reinstalling software drivers..

1) turn on , hook printer... needs done 1 time show in devices , printers.... otherwise, machine lexmark fax, , result, can't "remove" printer.

2) once printer visible in devices , printers, unhook it..

3) "remove" lexmark printer , lexmark fax (if have one) in devices , printers. right click on it... fax first if have one...

4) stop print spooler in "services" .. control panel... administrative tools... services

5) uninstall software\drivers...

6) @ prompt lexmark uninstaller, reboot.

7) after rebooting, stop print spooler again.

8) reinstall software\drivers... used both xp sp3 , vista compatibility mode on different attempts, , both worked... hook printer when prompted installer. win 7 may work printer depending on it's age..

before steps 9 + 10, check see if bidirectional support enabled... may be, , if so, skip step #11.

9) unhook printer again , reboot. bidirectional support must enabled, , setting won't stick if printer hooked up.. need reboot clear things before next step.

10) enable bidirectional support , reboot. this, go devices , printers , select "printer properties" , "ports" tab... check box near bottom.

11) set the printer preferences use, if any, , it's ready go.
