jamie,

to boot installation disk [indeed, bootable usb] had change these settings in bios/uefi.  contents & layout of bioses / uefis varies expect ours similar -

secure boot group heading, secure boot enable heading, set disabled, apply.

security group heading, ptt security heading, clear ptt on checkbox, apply. [i left clear checkbox alone setting wipes settings according onscreen description]

general group heading, advanced boot options heading, set enable legacy options roms, apply.

on leaving bios/uefi & being asked confirm changes, had option save custom user settings did this.  haven't foggiest idea means might assist future attempts switch between these permissive settings & default restrictive settings [testing is very low on list of priorities].

upon starting computer & whilst dell logo still onscreen, used f12 to go to the boot options menu where selected the usb storage device entry.

when usb runs -

  • there region & language settings choose main install now screen has repair computer item well so select that.
  • in menu appears, select troubleshoot then start-up repair.
  • i recommend trying let repair first involve in lot less work reinstalling.

further comments posted in out of box dell inspiron , have no operating system on now. thread.
