Latest Windows 10 Automatic update created a new user, Can't - Microsoft Community

when installing last windows 10 home automatic update (version 1709) on lenovo s1 yoga , upon restarting found of settings gone, , files missing.  discovered update had created new user profile.  old files , settings still in folder under c:\users\**, i'm wondering how windows recognize default profile again.  there way merge them?  (the old user doesn't show in windows>settings>advanced system settings>system properties>user profiles)  cut , paste folders in old user, new user windows created, many files (particularly settings) won't transfer because files in use current user, , can't overwritten.

ideas?

**moved from: (windows / windows 10 / windows update, recovery, & backup).**

there way re-activate old profile complex, requires working @ console level, might need registry hack , outcome uncertain. strong experience @ maintenance level might try it. if lack experience easier , safer way restore missing settings manually 1 one.

you can, of course, copy file or folder across so:

  1. create spare admin account.
  2. reboot.
  3. log on under spare admin account.
  4. copy missing items old profile folder new profile folder.

make sure save current files in order have back-out path.
