hi,
the concern have encountered may due corrupted file or misconfigured setting.
if you’re having problems getting connected network , can’t onto internet, here things can try in windows 10.
try these things first fix or narrow down connection problem.
- check out why can't online? and try of basic troubleshooting steps mentioned there.
- restart modem , wireless router. helps create new connection internet service provider (isp). when this, connected wi-fi network temporarily disconnected.
the steps take restart your modem , router can vary, here general steps:
- unplug power cable router power source.
- unplug power cable modem power source.
modems have backup battery. if unplug modem , lights stay on, remove battery modem. - wait @ least 30 seconds or so.
if had remove battery modem, put in. - plug modem power source. lights on modem blink. wait them stop blinking.
- plug router power source.
wait few minutes modem , router power on. can tell when they’re ready looking @ status lights on 2 devices. - on pc, try connect again.
- generate wireless network report. report can diagnose problem, or @ least provide more information give others might able help.
- in search box on taskbar, type command prompt, press , hold (or right-click) command prompt, , select run administrator > yes.
- at command prompt, type netsh wlan show wlanreport.

- make sure it’s not problem cable modem or internet service provider (isp).
- if is, contact isp. in search box on taskbar, type command prompt, press , hold (or right-click) command prompt, , select run administrator > yes.
- at command prompt, type ipconfig.
ip address listed next to default gateway. write down address if need to. example: 192.168.1.1 - at prompt, type ping <defaultgateway> and press enter. example, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press enter. result should this:
reply 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=5ms ttl=64
reply 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=5ms ttl=64
reply 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=5ms ttl=64
reply 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=5ms ttl=64
ping statistics 192.168.1.1: packets: sent = 4, received = 4, lost = 0 (0% loss), approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: minimum = 4ms, maximum = 5ms, average = 4ms
if ping successful , see results similar results above, can’t connect internet on pc, there may problem modem or internet service provider (isp).
run network troubleshooter followed networking commands
the network troubleshooter can diagnose , fix common connection problems. using troubleshooter, running networking commands afterwards if needed, can connected.
to run network troubleshooter
- in search box on taskbar, type network troubleshooter, , select identify , repair network problems from list of results.
- follow steps in troubleshooter , see if fixes problem.
if doesn’t fix connection problem, try these things:
- reset tcp/ip stack
- release ip address
- renew ip address
- flush , reset dns client resolver cache
to run these networking commands in command prompt window
- in search box on taskbar, type command prompt, press , hold (or right-click) command prompt, , select run administrator> yes.
- at command prompt, run following commands in listed order, , check see if fixes connection problem:
- type netsh winsock reset and press enter.
- type netsh int ip reset and press enter.
- type ipconfig /release and press enter.
- type ipconfig /renew and press enter.
- type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter.
an outdated or incompatible network adapter driver can cause connection problems. if upgraded to windows 10, it's possible current driver designed previous version of windows. check see if updated driver available.
- in search box on taskbar, type device manager, , select device manager from list of results.
- in device manager, select network adapters > network adapter name.
- press , hold (or right-click) the network adapter, , select update driver > search automatically updated driver software. follow steps, select close.
- after installing updated driver, select the start button > power > restart if you're asked restart, , see if fixes connection issue.
if windows can’t find new driver network adapter, visit pc manufacturer’s website , download latest network adapter driver there. if pc can't connect internet, you'll need download driver on different pc , save usb flash drive, can manually install driver on pc. you’ll need know pc manufacturer , model name or number.
to manually install network adapter driver
do 1 of following, depending on kind of file downloaded pc manufacturer’s website:
- if downloaded executable (.exe) file, double-click file run , install drivers. should need do.
- if downloaded individual files, and @ least 1 file has .inf file name extension , has .sys extension, following:
- in search box on taskbar, type device manager, , select device manager from list of results.
- in device manager, select network adapters > network adapter name. (if it’s not listed there, check in other devices.)
- press , hold (or right-click) the network adapter, , select update driver > browse computer driver software.
- select browse > select location driver files stored > ok.
- select next > follow steps install driver > close.
- after you've updated driver, select the start button > power > restart if you're asked restart, , see if fixes connection issue.
