Sign-in options for PIN - Microsoft Community

i've updated computer , noticed have log computer using microsoft account password. log in , go settings see up. noticed says "add" new pin number. follow directions , says "we need verify identity for **insert email address". add in old pin number had before.......kinda weird have this.  add old pin number , nothing happens. stills says need add new pin number when have one.

i clicked on i forgot pin, but says you can reset pin going settings > accounts > sign-in options. but problem cannot reset pin because says haven't made 1 before. (which had before computer updated)

could please me not know going on. thank you

the challenge you're experiencing updating pin might due corrupted system file. being said, we'll need more information isolate possible causes of concern. please answer following questions:

  • is issue affecting user profiles on windows 10 device?
  • what current version , os build of windows 10 device?

to verify the version and os build of windows 10 pc, click the start button, type about pc, , press enter.

in meantime, advise running troubleshooter microsoft account. automatically scan , fix issues detected microsoft account signed windows 10 pc. can access troubleshooter link.

if issue continues after running troubleshooter, recommend running dism command-line tool , system file checker (sfc) tool. these tools scan corruptions in windows system files , restore corrupted files. follow steps outlined in article on how run dism command-line tool , sfc tool. please make sure you're signed in administrator before running tools.

hello, so bought new laptop came windows 10 pre-installed. when unpacking, store clerk created dummy local account used when starting first time - make process faster syncing microsoft account, can sync later - said. anyway, done , welcomed desktop. synced microsoft account , went in. synced right away - down wallpapers , themes - save 1 thing; the account name. it still using dummy local account name, despite picture has changed account picture. clicked 'sign in microsoft account instead', , process failed in end. said "[my e-mail account] here already. user in device uses microsoft account, can't add here" i tried removing e-mail & app account under 'e-mail & app account' tab , when tried again, still didn't work. please, want name here. oh, , don't know topic should fall - there's no 'sync' specifically, pick 1 think closest. sorry in advance.
