Cannot set default programs and set program associations completely - Microsoft Community

hi!

i've switched chrome firefox , realized couldn't set standard browser or application matter anymore. don't know when took place, it's worth noting had roll creator's update due display driver errors , long startups occuring. currently, i'm using 1607 again , works fine, i'm not sure if rollback had it.

either way, after switching browsers noticed no matter do, i've been unable set firefox standard. i've uninstalled chrome , windows revert using internet explorer.

when enter windows 10 settings set default applications can select programs want nothing happens, example default browser selection stays blank. if attempt select else, new music player example or revert windows defaults outright crash "window not responding" , close no changes made.

when attempt set firefox default browser in firefox' setting open separate system window called "set program ssociations" i'd assume list of programs can select defaults, list blank. supposed way?

if haven't yet manually install fall creator version 1709 installing media creation tool , choosing upgrade now. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m.... stable method upgrade new version (which need anyway) , bring date reinstalled windows solve other problems have. if causes problems or doesn't solve problem can rolled in recovery settings.

there automated refresh reinstalls windows while shedding corrupting factory bloatware, saves files, doesn't clear drive cleanest: https://www.howtogeek.com/265054/how-to-easily-... program or settings that's causing conflict gone, can reinstall programs , settings on time see how affect performance.

hello, so bought new laptop came windows 10 pre-installed. when unpacking, store clerk created dummy local account used when starting first time - make process faster syncing microsoft account, can sync later - said. anyway, done , welcomed desktop. synced microsoft account , went in. synced right away - down wallpapers , themes - save 1 thing; the account name. it still using dummy local account name, despite picture has changed account picture. clicked 'sign in microsoft account instead', , process failed in end. said "[my e-mail account] here already. user in device uses microsoft account, can't add here" i tried removing e-mail & app account under 'e-mail & app account' tab , when tried again, still didn't work. please, want name here. oh, , don't know topic should fall - there's no 'sync' specifically, pick 1 think closest. sorry in advance.
