Windows Hello: 'Couldn't Turn on Camera...' - Microsoft Community

i have had windows hello (facial recognition) set sign in on sp4 running w10 since bought year ago. has performed pretty (except when went few weeks without shaving), until today.

lock screen, receive message "couldn't turn on camera, sign in pin". pin sign in works fine. have tested camera using "camera" app, , works fine.

first started happening today, , has been continuous.

the "surface camera windows hello" driver up-to-date version; windows has up-to-date version, , (according pc) has not installed on 7 days. (10.0.15063 build 15063)

about hour ago, recovery attempt, deleted windows hello data , re-recognized myself. did not fix it. have since rebooted, , being told windows hello not available on device. um, hello? yeah is.

earlier morning, windows defender gave me error intel management engine interface. windows troubleshooter not fix it, uninstalled device manager , rebooted. camera worked then, still had "(10)" error on intel management engine, used system restore go last thursday. intel management engine interface fine now. shortly thereafter (i don't know if next time or not) when started having windows hello problem.

thoughts on try?

thanks!

googling seems naught.

hi,

it's possible happening due software conflict. aside latest windows updates, did make other changes computer?

in meantime, suggest performing clean boot following steps provided here. let windows 10 run minimal drivers , programs, , if can reestablish windows hello sign-in data while in clean boot environment, mean different program preventing windows recognizing hardware or drivers needed windows hello.

note: return computer normal, check section how reset computer start after clean boot troubleshooting.

we'd recommend creating new user profile check if caused corrupted user profile. may find steps doing through link.

let know if windows hello works after following these steps.
