Windows 10 Microsoft Account behind Proxy - Microsoft Community

to having proxy sign on problems windows 10 (maybe other versions well) , microsoft accounts behind proxy.  i have encountered ongoing issues proxy authentication prompts until now, resolve temporarily disconnecting , reconnecting the network cable (or rebooting).   after network activity restored, can browse , use ms services 5-10 minutes before start getting proxy authentication prompts again.

 

my setup

surface 4 - windows 10 pro 

sign-in windows hello -> microsoft account setup during initial windows start-up , activation.

office 365 -> corrupted couple of times because of proxy sign-in issues (separate issue)

connecting lan (not wifi) through microsoft surface dock.

proxy configuration script (proxy.pac) setup configured under internet options -> connection -> lan settings -> use automatic configuration script.  no other proxy options enabled.

 

i manage several machines on corporate network.  some joined domain, standalone machines, mix of server , desktop images, virtual , physical.  all machines can access internet through proxy without triggering authentication prompts proxy gateway.

 

my windows 10 surface 4 machine has exact same proxy settings.  when rebooted or when network connected, works (cortana, edge, firefox, windows store, outlook, etc).  within 5-10 min, start receiving authentication prompts indicating proxy server requires authentication.  

 

again, proxy server allows anonymous connections because unix, , windows standalone images not joined domain can access internet without being prompted credentials.

 

i have been searching web solution problem.  i have tried proxy configuration steps, resets, different network controllers / adaptors in case problem dock.  nothing has worked.

 

a friend bought new pc windows 10 , not having problems @ using exact same proxy configuration settings.  we narrowed down difference sign-in account.  i using microsoft account sign windows; using local account sign windows.  

 

i reverted sign on account on surface 4 microsoft account local account , relieved discover connection problems seem have been resolved.  i no longer prompted proxy authentication access.  i can still use microsoft account applications need including windows hello (go figure) trick have each individual application manage own microsoft account connection settings.  not choose centrally manage microsoft account upgrade sign on account microsoft account.  centralized microsoft account management via sign on account has potential cause proxy authentication issues if need use device behind corporate proxy.  i'm not sure difference is, apps had problems connecting after 5-10 minutes can work day long.  the network available.  setup works seamlessly when bring surface laptop home.  can't find proxy script , defaults direct access.

 

so..., believe broken centralized management of microsoft account , internet proxy configurations.  i'll leave microsoft work out.  for else having problem, try reverting local account.  it worked me.
