hi carolyn,

based on details have shared in post, issue has started after latest windows update. it's possible there have been changes occurred in settings may have affected wi-fi connection , computer's overall performance. better assist you, ask more details regarding concern.

  • what specific update have installed prior issue? check, follow these steps: open settings app > update & security > view installed update history.
  • when mentioned computer not recognize wi-fi, mean not detect other wi-fi connection available?
  • to isolate issue, we'd know if technician has tried troubleshooting steps address wi-fi , slow performance issue.

in meantime, kindly refer articles below initial troubleshooting , let know if there's improvement.

we hope hear soon.
