Icons and thumbnails missing everywhere - Microsoft Community

so, put computer sleep , when log in again, notice desktop icons missing. saw icons in taskbar missing. similarly, windows explorer not show folder icons, file preview not work. also, cannot see thumbnails in picture folder. screenshots of these scenarios attached. 

to solve, have tried following without success.

1) antivirus , anti-malware check

2) restarting in normal, diagnostic , selective (usual) startup

3) restarting in safe mode, same problem persists.

4) checking file errors (scf/scannow). result - no integrity violations

5) tried use system restore, error message (screenshot attached). had system restore enabled , few restore points. 

6) tried right click on c: go properties , perform system checkup. property window/panel not open. properties windows not open files well, when try alt+enter

i appreciate if tell me how can solved. personally, prefer if did not have reinstall or reset windows. thanks.

icons may go missing if windows shell interface didn't load completely. integral part of windows ensures system working including appearance icons of each app or file in system.

note: before proceeding on instructions below, please ensure create backup of personal data in case there interruptions on process of executing it. visit article back , restore filesand follow steps provided. copy-pasting main drive external drive easy way backup personal files.

refreshing computer restore computer condition. there option keep files during process. reinstall windows 10 while keeping files. please take note apps , drivers installed on computer removed changes made pc settings. may need reinstall programs need on computer after refresh.

hello, so bought new laptop came windows 10 pre-installed. when unpacking, store clerk created dummy local account used when starting first time - make process faster syncing microsoft account, can sync later - said. anyway, done , welcomed desktop. synced microsoft account , went in. synced right away - down wallpapers , themes - save 1 thing; the account name. it still using dummy local account name, despite picture has changed account picture. clicked 'sign in microsoft account instead', , process failed in end. said "[my e-mail account] here already. user in device uses microsoft account, can't add here" i tried removing e-mail & app account under 'e-mail & app account' tab , when tried again, still didn't work. please, want name here. oh, , don't know topic should fall - there's no 'sync' specifically, pick 1 think closest. sorry in advance.
