Affect on Windows When Swapping Hard Drives - Microsoft Community

hi --

have 2 computers (hp , dell) both running windows 10...both activated , date.  if swap drive hp dell, there negative impact on functionality of windows?

have situation drive in dell acting swapped drives.  now can't update...windows or applications...and i'm unable install no apps (e.g., putty).  the installs start hang.

ask ramifications of swapping drives due comment forum moderator in thread regarding installing windows 10 when replacing drive.  the comment was:

"when upgraded previous version of windows or receive new computer preinstalled windows 10, happened hardware (your pc) digital entitlement, unique signature of computer stored on microsoft activation servers."

i'm wondering if unique signature invalid drive has been moved different computer.

next step going swapping drives.  after that, i'll have wipe drive , try fresh windows install.

you can swap, long both systems running same editions of windows 10.

it should work, sometimes, might not. windows 10 have hardware detection , can reconfigure on different motherboard.

if doesn't, either need perform startup repair or repair upgrade:

hello, so bought new laptop came windows 10 pre-installed. when unpacking, store clerk created dummy local account used when starting first time - make process faster syncing microsoft account, can sync later - said. anyway, done , welcomed desktop. synced microsoft account , went in. synced right away - down wallpapers , themes - save 1 thing; the account name. it still using dummy local account name, despite picture has changed account picture. clicked 'sign in microsoft account instead', , process failed in end. said "[my e-mail account] here already. user in device uses microsoft account, can't add here" i tried removing e-mail & app account under 'e-mail & app account' tab , when tried again, still didn't work. please, want name here. oh, , don't know topic should fall - there's no 'sync' specifically, pick 1 think closest. sorry in advance.
